Our appraisals are comprehensive and detailed reports that comply with requirements of all insurance companies . Our reports are usually about 6-8 pages in length and at least 8-12 pictures....We feel strongly that any appraisal done on your vehicle should this thorough. Please read your insurance policy carefully to ensure you have the proper coverage for your vehicle. There are 2 distinct coverages and they have exact opposite meanings.... The 2 coverages are OPCF19A and OPCF19 ......sound similar don't they! However one is very restrictive.
OPCF 19A - Agreed Value of Automobile(s) Endorsement - This endorsement guarantees the insurer will pay the amount stated on the endorsement in the event of a total loss. The amount is determined by a recent and approved appraisal of the vehicle. Make sure you have this endorsement on your policy for your classic car! Most Classic, or antique car specific insurance policies have the OPCF 19A endorsement.
OPCF 19 - Limitation Of Amount Endorsement - This endorsement sets a limit to the liability of the insurer (usually the appraised value). At the insurer's discretion they can pay out only what they consider to be the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of the car or the appraised value, whichever may be less! The insurance company will most likely attempt to settle for less than the appraised value, even though your rates are based on the appraised value. Unfortunately, with the OPCF 19 endorsement, you are at the mercy of your insurer in the event of a claim. Your best hope is a fair and just settlement from your insurance company, or getting involved in a legal battle with your insurer.
Check your policy or call your broker if you are unsure of your coverage........Make sure you have the OPCF 19A endorsement on your Classic car!
